I had a couple of trips out to a gold mine in Guizhou Provence in 2007. Jinfeng was the first foreign owed gold mine in China and started production early 2007. It was a 6 hour drive from the capital Guiyang and the road for the most part was dirt. But the phone signal was never lost. Even in those remote parts. A suspension bridge over a gorge was an engineering feet with the gorge dropping hundreds feet below. Farming life out there was very simple with buffaloes still the main engine for farm implements.
