I have been very fortunate to travel to Egypt many times on business over 20 years. Seemingly chaotic at times but Egypt is much more than the Pyramids, Suez Canal and the desert. The Nile delta up in the Mansoura area near Damietta is lush and is the food bowl of Egypt. I spent a lot of time driving to Abu Radies or Zeit Bay on the Gulf of Suez or to Port Said. So many afternoons walking the streets of Cairo between jobs. Or heading out to the stepped pyramids of Sakara or to Giza for a camel ride around the perimeter of the Giza pyramids. Traveling around Egypt is not easy and a Section 51 is required to get out in the sensitive and remote areas. Anywhere in the Western Desert or the Sinai. Sometimes when we didn’t have the paperwork we would veer off the road to Masar Matruh road and drive the Western Desert road. The bedouin drivers never got lost when all you could see was sand for miles.
